WHALES: Women HAppier with Lowered Expectations and Standards

the new yorker mistook itself for the onion

July 15, 2008 · No Comments

there is a big (deservedly so) to-do over the new yorker’s cover depicting obama as a muslim and his wife as gun-toting, the american flag afire in the background. the magazine responds, defending itself with claims of satire, of being ironical–of making a funny. it’s not funny–not one iota.

well, i for one don’t think it’s funny. and i love comedy–i like the tv series csi and loved that movie taxi to the dark side (the old prison+torture=can’t-miss comedy formula). but i don’t like satire, or irony, or humor that requires thought (i for one say no to thought). and as coolly offensive and on-the-edge the kids these days find the new yorker, i find its latest shenanigans repugnant, disgusting–utterly gut-wrenching. no kidding, it required concerted effort just to keep down my soy macchiato today. and then timid i forwent the garbanzo beans in my mesclun salad (they sometimes make me gassy, which would only compound the wrenching-gut issue)–and consequently feel protein/fiber-deprived. yes, very weak, i feel; must…end…post….

but first: FUCK YOU, NEW YORKER, for fucking up my free-trade macchiato! and BURN IN HELL for wrecking my lunch break, MOTHERFUCKER!
